Congratulations To James Kochalka On The 10th Anniversary of American Elf
I missed it on Sunday because I’m an ass. This is an astonishing achievement in a lot of ways, and I hope everyone appreciates it for what it is. Ten years is the length (before option) of a standard daily newspaper comic strip. You can stockpile work when you’re working on that kind of endeavor in a way you can’t working on a daily diary comic, and people are still driven stark raving mad by the daily deadline pressure. Please take some time today or later this week to dig around the site and follow some of the tribute links.
If I Were In Toronto, I’d Go To This
Go, Read: A Visit With Marie Severin
I thought this was nice. I’d re-run the photo that accompanied the article, but 1) it’s not mine, 2) I want you to go look at it yourself, and 3) Marie Severin’s 1960s Marvel covers are cool.
Bundled, Tossed, Untied and Stacked
* one thing I didn’t know about Beasts! Vol. 2, the Jacob Covey edited and designed follow-up to his successful art book, is that none of the contributors that appear in the new book appeared in the first one.
* sign of the times: I’ve enjoyed the television show Eureka when I’ve seen it on Hulu.com, and I read comic books, and yet I’m not interested at all in a Eureka comic book.
* the writer Bill Randall has joined Noah Berlatsky and Tom Crippen at Hooded Utilitarian.
* the writer and longtime comics commentator Matt Maxwell wills serialize his next graphic novel, Strangeways: The Thirsty at Blog@Newsarama. Do you remember when Dwight Decker wrote a serialized story for Amazing Heroes about a guy who traded his comic book collection for the power of flight? For some reason, this reminds me of that.
